Recommended Mozart
These are the recommended Mozart works. They usually make it to the list of the "masterpieces". If you are new to Mozart's music I advice you to go with the order that I use on these pages. With each piece I recommend a recording which I consider the most appropriate.
- Piano Concertos
I consider these concertos some of Mozart's greatest creations, and many critics do, saying that in his symphonies he put his mind, and in these concertos he put his heart. They combine brilliant and virtuosic solo work with great orchestration.
Recommended Recording
In this recording Vladimir Ashkenazy show both his talent as pianist and conductor, as he performs both roles. The fast and difficult passages sound easy played by his hands, and the orchestra sound perfect with his direction from the keyboard. Flawless recording, very recommended.
- Later Symphonies
The last five symphonies represent the pinacle of Mozart's carreer and also of the classical era. Each of them is a very disctinct masterpiece, with a defining character. The famous dark 40th, contrasting with the exuberant 35th. You'll surely find something you love about these pieces of music.
Recommended Recording
Karl Böhm, one of the world's best conductors, with his Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra gives one of the best interpretations of these works.
